History of the Carnivals of São Luíz do Paraitinga

.
San Luiz do Paraitinga had no carnival during the 20th century due to strong thoughts against such activities by the religious institutions there. These religious authorities banned the festivities for a long time. However, in 1982 they emerged again due to the fact that the locality remained one of the few regions of the country that did not celebrate the festivities. From that moment the first blocos of the locality emerged, beginning to createcarnival identity as a locality.

The festivities began to add traditional elements of São Luiz do Paraitinga, including characters from local legends, giving the festivities a distinctive and unique design that other celebrations did not have. The carnival groups reinvent themselves to make way for a celebration to include the differentcultural and historical aspects of the locality.

In 2010 a heavy rain flooded the city, generating heavy landslides and destroying houses, which caused the carnivals to stop being celebrated. Fortunately, the carnivals are back to stay and share new experiences with residents and visitors.

San Luiz do Paraitinga Carnival has grown rapidly due to these differentiating elements that make the carnival stand out from the rest of the region.
