What is the Liverpool Brazilica Carnival?

The Brazilica Carnival or Brazilica Festival is the largest celebration culture in the United Kingdom. The festivities take place every year in Liverpool and have been present since July 2008. This festival is run by the Liverpool Carnival Company.
Brazilica Carnival began as a tourist destination for the city during its reign as European Capital of Culture, a title awarded to one or two European cities a year by the European Union Congress to encourage tourism and culture in the cities. History of the Liverpool Brazilica Carnivals

The Brazilica Carnival was first held in August 2008 as part of an initiative during the European Capital of Culture proclamation in Liverpool. The festival was attended by more than 500 artists from all over the United Kingdom, Brazil, the Netherlands, Ireland, Germany and Spain. In 2010 the first Carnival Queen contest was held and became an annual ceremony during the carnival. The following years the carnival continued to gain strength and receive participants from all over the world, counting with dozens of bands, groupings and samba schools all over the world.
In 2011 the festival decided to extend for a weekend due to the great popularity it was acquiring. Since then, it acquired the name Festival Brazilica. The festival also continued to organize itsannual dance contest for Queen of the Carnival and in 2011 incorporated the Carnival Ball event. The carnival has 80,000 annual visitors and around 1,000 contributors to the event, including bands, dancers and groups.

Events at the Liverpool Brazilica Carnival

The event begins with agreat presentation of Caribbean music and samba.
