What is the Dieburg Carnival?

The Dieburg Carnival is a celebration held every year in this small town of Dieburg located in southern Hesse, one of the 16 federal states of Germany. Traditionally, these carnivals are called Äla or Fastnich and although it may not seem like it, it is a celebration dating back some 500 years.

As it is a custom in the German carnivals, the costumes or disguises that most look in the streets are those of clowns or jesters. Thousands of people choose this costume for being one of the most cheerful and colorful. In addition, many people adapt the costume to make it unique and original. During the carnival season, the city becomes the epicenter of fun, music and parties.
